Minister for Disaster Management Sakiasi Ditoka has initiated a two-day visit to the Northern Division, assessing the government’s response to the impacts of Tropical Cyclone Rae and examining key development projects in the region. Accompanied by Assistant Minister Jovesa Vocea, the minister received an update from Commissioner for the Northern Division, Uraia Rainima, regarding recovery efforts aimed at supporting communities affected by the cyclone.
The discussions centered on improving infrastructure and promoting economic growth within the Northern Division. Key locations visited during the trip included Nasealevu in Macuata and the site of the new Waiqele Airport Terminal, alongside ongoing accommodation developments at the Damodar complex in Labasa. Previous evaluations after Tropical Cyclone Rae have shown that while localized flooding did occur, more significant damage was largely avoided due to proactive measures.
