A flash flood warning is currently in effect for low-lying and flood-prone areas in the Northern Division of Fiji. In response to the forecast of strong winds issued by the Fiji Meteorological Service, Northern Commissioner Uraia Rainima convened an emergency meeting with leaders from essential service departments, including the Fiji Roads Authority, Fiji Police, and the National Fire Authority.

Commissioner Rainima noted that despite recent heavy rainfall over the weekend, the island’s connecting roads remain clear. He also emphasized the importance of preparedness, urging the Ministry of Education to ensure that schools designated as evacuation centers are ready to assist if necessary.

In an effort to safeguard the community, the Commissioner advised residents to make informed decisions and relocate their families to safe locations ahead of any potential flooding. He reassured the public that all necessary measures are in place to tackle any emergencies that may arise.

This proactive approach reflects the government’s commitment to protecting the safety and well-being of its citizens during adverse weather conditions. Staying prepared is crucial, and community cooperation can significantly reduce risks in times of natural crises.

With diligent planning and prompt action, there is hope that the impacts of severe weather can be managed effectively, ensuring a swift recovery for affected areas.
