Firefighters in the Northern Division have demonstrated an exemplary record in discipline, positioning themselves as a model of dedication and professionalism within the National Fire Authority (NFA). During a recent visit to all four stations in the North, Chief Executive Officer Puamau Sowane praised the firefighters for their exceptional work ethic and adherence to disciplinary standards, noting that, unlike other divisions that have faced issues, the Northern Division has remained flawless in this regard.
Sowane expressed his satisfaction, particularly highlighting the clean disciplinary record observed in stations like Nabouwalu, Seaqaqa, and Labasa. He emphasized the importance of regular visits to assess operations and address challenges encountered by the teams on the ground. “The main objective of our visits is to listen to our personnel and identify areas for service enhancement,” Sowane remarked.
In addition to his commendations, Sowane also addressed ongoing investigations concerning a recent house fire in Bulileka, Labasa, where an elderly woman suffered significant losses. Such incidents underscore the challenges faced by local firefighters, especially in resource-limited scenarios.
The NFA currently boasts over 700 firefighters, including the recent cohort of 90 recruits, reflecting a dedication to bolstering the workforce and improving community safety. As the authority continues to foster discipline and professionalism, the commitment shown by the Northern Division stands as a beacon of hope for both firefighting personnel and the communities they serve.
The affirmation from NFA leadership signifies a positive outlook for the ongoing development within Fiji’s firefighting services. As the organization prioritizes better training and resource management, the collaborative efforts between the NFA and local communities will undoubtedly contribute to enhanced safety and emergency response capabilities across the region.
