Surge operations in Fiji’s Northern Division have recently resulted in multiple arrests tied to allegations of illegal possession of drugs. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, reported that enhanced efforts have been made to bolster these operations with the assistance of specialized units, including the Police Mobile Force, the Fiji Detector Dog Unit, and the Police Dog Unit.
Driu emphasized the importance of disrupting the drug supply chain, highlighting ongoing initiatives such as farm raids, mop-up exercises, and targeting key distributors within the market. The effectiveness of these operations is being further amplified by community support, which has led to increased sharing of information aiding in successful raids in the region.
During today’s operations, police apprehended five men aged between 20 and 30 years. Additionally, several items suspected to be stolen were confiscated. Investigations are ongoing.
This proactive approach underscores the collective effort of the police and local communities in the fight against drug-related crime, driving hope for a safer and healthier environment for residents in the Northern Division. With continued collaboration and vigilance, there is potential for further reducing drug-related activities in the area.
