Labasa’s North-Pole football club made a triumphant return home after clinching the 2024 Cecil’s National Club Championship (NCCC), walking away with $4,000 in prize money. They emerged victorious against Buiduna, winning the match 6-3 at the Fiji Football Association grounds yesterday.

The match began intensely, with Buiduna holding their own against the Northerners, ending the first half in a 2-2 tie. However, North-Pole regained their momentum in the second half. Melvin Mani scored to give them the lead in the 55th minute, followed shortly by a second goal from Christopher Wasasala in the 61st minute. Additional goals were scored by Eparama Moraica and Mohammed Arbaz, solidifying their lead.

Despite their loss, Buiduna made history by reaching their first-ever NCCC final. They had an impressive journey to the finals, beginning with a 2-1 victory over Nakasi Police from Rewa, followed by a close 1-0 win against rivals from Lautoka, and concluded their pool play with a 1-1 draw against Nadroga’s Downtown, which secured their place in the final. Buiduna’s commendable performance earned them a prize of $1,000.
