Seal extension works have begun along Noco Delta Road in Rewa, with more than 1.9 kilometres of the route now scheduled to be sealed as part of efforts to improve road conditions and enhance safety for motorists and local communities.
Contractors have moved onto the route and works are underway to apply a sealed surface to the unsealed sections, officials said. The upgrade is intended to provide a smoother, more reliable carriageway that will reduce dust and muddy conditions during wet weather, making daily travel easier for residents and safer for students commuting to nearby schools.
Local residents are expected to see immediate changes in accessibility once the sealing is completed. The new pavement will shorten travel times for people who rely on Noco Delta Road for work, education and access to services. Farmers and market vendors in the area will also benefit from improved access to markets and essential services, easing the transport of goods and reducing vehicle wear and tear on an otherwise rough surface.
The Noco Delta works form the latest phase in a wider programme of road upgrades around the country aimed at lifting safety and connectivity for rural communities. Previous sealing projects have produced tangible improvements: the Kawakawavesi Road and the frontage of Vunimanuca Primary School in Seaqaqa helped eliminate dust and muddy access that had affected students and teachers, while chip-sealing in Qawa significantly improved mobility for dozens of households and hundreds of pupils. Sealing works at Malake Landing in Rakiraki were recently completed and welcomed by local commuters for improving community connectivity.
Beyond providing a more comfortable ride, properly sealed roads typically reduce maintenance costs for vehicles and support more reliable access for emergency services, school transport, and commercial vehicles. Community leaders have in past upgrades highlighted the role of drainage works alongside sealing in preventing erosion and flood damage during the wet season; similar ancillary works are frequently carried out as part of seal extensions to protect the new pavement.
Work on Noco Delta Road remains in progress, and motorists and pedestrians using the stretch are advised to take care around construction zones and observe any temporary traffic controls in place. Completion of the sealed section is expected to bring immediate relief to daily commuters, students, farmers and traders who depend on the route for their livelihoods and access to essential services.
