Independent MP Criticizes Reduction in Parliamentary Speaking Time and Sessions

An Independent Opposition Member of Parliament has voiced her dissatisfaction with the reduction of speaking time from 20 to 15 minutes and the shortening of Parliament sessions from two weeks to one.

While addressing the 2024-2025 National Budget in Parliament, Kumar noted that in the past 18 months, the speaking time and the number of speakers have been curtailed on critical motions.

“This isn’t democracy, Mr. Speaker Sir.”

“This House belongs to the people, and they deserve sufficient time for us to debate and scrutinize important issues affecting them,” she declared.
