Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu has announced that there will be no reconciliation in the case of harassment alleged against health workers on Ono-i-Lau Island, part of the Lau Group, during the festive season. A police team is currently conducting an investigation into the incident, and the Commissioner firmly stated that reconciliation is not being considered.

Commissioner Tudravu emphasized the communities’ responsibility to protect public workers who are dispatched to provide essential services. He remarked, “Communities are responsible for looking after government officials, those who are providing assistance, and those sent by the government to aid us.”

The Commissioner further pointed out that if such harassment leads to the closure of the local health center, the residents themselves would bear the consequences. He urged the community, referred to as the “Vanua,” to take this matter seriously and ensure the safety and well-being of health workers serving on the island.

This situation underscores the important role that local communities play in protecting those who are dedicated to helping others, especially in times of need.
