Pio Tikoduadua, the Minister for Home Affairs, has reaffirmed that no individual is above the law amidst an ongoing investigation concerning Aiyaz Mohammed Musa Umarji, a convicted drug smuggler. Tikoduadua emphasized the government’s firm stance against drug-related crimes, highlighting that his ministry is aware of Musa’s return to the country.

He stated, “As Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration, I can confirm that I am aware of the ongoing investigation regarding Mr Musa’s return to the country. However, as this is an active investigation, I cannot comment on the specifics or provide further details at this time.”

The Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to tackling illicit narcotics and vowed to continue supporting law enforcement in addressing such issues. He emphasized the importance of due process in every investigation to protect communities from the dangers associated with drug activities.

Musa was released from a New Zealand prison after serving a sentence for the importation of pseudoephedrine, a key ingredient in meth production. The Fiji Police Criminal Investigations Department and Serious Organised Crime are currently investigating allegations involving misappropriation of funds, illegal importation of controlled substances, money laundering, and proceeds of crime.
