The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is fully backing the newly introduced “No Card No Ride” policy, which mandates passengers to possess valid eTransport cards for traveling on public buses, effectively eliminating cash transactions. This initiative is seen as a crucial element of the national electronic fare ticketing system, enhancing the efficiency and security of public transport.
Chief Executive Irimaia Rokosawa conveyed that the LTA plays a vital regulatory role in ensuring the successful implementation of this policy. He emphasized the importance of collaboration with bus operators to guarantee adherence across the entire public transport system.
The new e-ticketing framework complies with all legal parameters, moving away from traditional paper receipts. Passengers will now receive electronic tickets stored on their bus cards, serving as proof of payment. Rokosawa reassured commuters that they would not face fines for not having paper receipts, as their electronic tickets are legitimate proof of fare payment.
To facilitate this transition, LTA enforcement officers are well-equipped with electronic scanning devices to verify fare payments by simply scanning the passengers’ bus cards. Passengers are encouraged to consistently carry their eTransport cards, as these may be needed for verification during inspections.
Moreover, the LTA is committed to collaborating with Vodafone Fiji Limited, public bus operators, and the broader community to ensure a smooth shift towards a completely cashless fare system. This development is poised to enhance the overall public transport experience, making it more accessible and efficient for all users.
