NIRANJAN Autoport Pte Ltd participated in the annual “Clean Up the World” campaign organized by Suzuki Marine last Saturday, collecting 246.1 kilograms of rubbish along the Suva foreshore. This initiative, which has been active since 2010, emphasizes the importance of protecting marine environments and supports Suzuki’s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship.

To date, over 17,000 individuals have engaged in this global effort, highlighting a collective dedication to enhancing marine health. Shamal Singh, the dealership development manager at Niranjan’s Suzuki Fiji, noted that 2025 marks Suzuki Marine’s 60th anniversary, creating an opportunity to reflect on their contributions to the environment.

Singh detailed three pivotal actions aimed at marine conservation: continuing the clean-up campaigns initiated under the ‘Suzuki Clean Ocean Project’, reducing plastic packaging in their products, and introducing the Micro-Plastic Collecting Device (MPC) for select outboard motors. Since September 2021, they have successfully replaced plastic packaging materials, leading to a reduction of over 52 tons of plastic waste.

The recent clean-up extension saw collaborative efforts with the Environment and Climate Change Ministry, resulting in the removal of various materials including plastic bottles, paper, glass, and more, emphasizing the pervasive issue of waste that affects Fiji’s coastline and marine ecosystems.

Community clean-up events like this resonate with recent efforts across Fiji, such as organized campaigns led by the Pacific Ocean Litter Youth Project, which have collectively addressed litter and instilled a sense of environmental responsibility among locals. Such initiatives are a hopeful sign that local communities are increasingly aware of the environmental challenges they face.

Collective action by organizations and individuals reflects a growing commitment to creating a cleaner and more sustainable environment for future generations, fostering optimism for the future of Fiji’s natural landscapes.
