Nineteen individuals were transported to Lautoka Hospital following a collision between a bus and a twin cab vehicle in Vitogo, near Lautoka, yesterday afternoon. According to police reports, the accident occurred at approximately 2:45 PM when the twin cab pulled out from Vitogo Road and struck a bus that was en route from Lautoka to Ba. The bus was scheduled to transport passengers to Ellington Wharf in Rakiraki for the 6 PM Goundar Shipping vessel heading to Natovi and Vanua Levu.
Sherin Nisha, a passenger on the Goundar Shipping bus, expressed her disappointment regarding the incident. She remarked, “It was a silly mistake of the twin cab driver. He should have waited for a few seconds for the bus to pass.” Nisha noted that the driver of the twin cab seemed to have made a sudden decision to enter the road without waiting for the bus to pass.
Due to the force of the collision, the bus rolled over and ended up on its side against the twin cab. Both the twin cab driver and 18 passengers from the bus required medical attention and were taken to Lautoka Hospital for treatment.
While incidents like this are unfortunate, it serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for drivers to remain cautious and patient, especially at intersections. The community can find solace in knowing that medical assistance was promptly provided, and we hope for the speedy recovery of all those injured in the accident.
