Nineteen individuals were taken to Lautoka Hospital after a bus collided with a twin cab vehicle in Vitogo, just outside Lautoka, yesterday afternoon. According to police, the twin cab was exiting Vitogo Road at approximately 2:45 PM when it struck the bus, which was on its way from Lautoka to Ba, heading towards Ellington Wharf in Rakiraki to catch the 6 PM Goundar Shipping vessel bound for Natovi and Vanua Levu.
One of the bus passengers, Sherin Nisha, expressed her heartbreak over the incident, attributing the accident to what she described as a “foolish mistake” by the twin cab driver. Nisha noted that the driver should have waited a moment for the bus to pass before pulling out, adding that the situation unfolded unexpectedly when the twin cab driver suddenly emerged from the junction.
According to police reports, the severity of the collision caused the bus to flip onto the driver’s side of the twin cab. The driver of the twin cab, along with 18 passengers from the bus, required medical attention and were transported to Lautoka Hospital for treatment.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for drivers to remain vigilant and patient, especially at junctions. It highlights the collective responsibility we share in ensuring safe travel for everyone on the road. As investigations continue, we hope for the swift recovery of all affected and encourage drivers to prioritize safety in their travels.
