Nine military units gathered at the National Netball Centre in Suva on Wednesday for the Republic of Fiji Military Forces’ (RFMF) Inter-Unit Netball, Volleyball, and Touch Competition. The event saw participation from multiple branches, including the Land Force Command, Engineers, RFMF HQ, Joint Task Force Command from Nadi, Force Training Group, Republic of Fiji Navy, the third Fiji Infantry Regiment (3FIR), and the Logistics Support Unit.
Despite unpredictable weather conditions, the military officers showcased their competitive spirit, battling for a chance to secure a place in the force’s final team for the highly anticipated Sukuna Bowl challenge next month. Major Nanise Ralagi, an organizing committee member, highlighted the impressive participation across all units, noting a significant improvement from last year when fewer teams were fielded.
The inter-unit meet not only served as a competition but also provided an opportunity to identify athletes who would represent the RFMF at next month’s Sukuna Bowl. Organizing the events for just one day was a strategic decision influenced by ongoing tasking commitments from various RFMF units.
The competition results were as follows: HQ 3FIR won the netball tournament, while HQ TF Brigade triumphed in both the female and male categories of volleyball. In touch rugby, HQ 3FIR claimed victory in the male division, and HQ Engineering dominated the female and mixed categories.
This event underscores the importance of teamwork and camaraderie within the RFMF, serving as a reminder of the bond shared among the military personnel. As preparations accelerate for the Sukuna Bowl, the spirit exhibited at this competition fosters a promising outlook for success and unity in the challenges ahead. The competitive atmosphere combined with shared experiences strengthens the resilience of the participants, fostering deeper connections within the military community.
