A violent altercation at a nightclub over the weekend has resulted in six individuals, including one bouncer, being hospitalized. The incident took place after closing hours when a group of intoxicated patrons allegedly attempted to break into the venue.
Witnesses reported that the confrontation began around 1 AM, shortly after two men were ejected from a neighboring nightclub. The situation quickly escalated as the group, frustrated by being refused entry, created chaos, overwhelming the bouncers present.
One staff member recounted, “They were climbing tables and even tried to climb the ceiling fans in the club beside this one.” After being denied entry into their establishment, the group returned, now joined by four additional individuals, and began demanding access aggressively. The situation turned violent when one of the bouncers was punched in the face, prompting an attack on the remaining bouncers, who found themselves outnumbered.
As a result of the melee, one bouncer suffered a dislocated jaw and remains hospitalized. Currently, three individuals are in stable condition at Sigatoka Hospital, while two remain unconscious and one is in stable condition at CWM Hospital.
The staff member criticized the apparent lack of police presence during the brawl, stating, “We didn’t see any police around to control the fight or the massive crowd that gathered.” In response, Assistant Commissioner of Police Livai Driu noted that they are interviewing staff who were on duty that night and that police officers present at the scene transported the injured to the hospital.
This incident highlights the urgent need for effective crowd management and security measures in nightlife venues to prevent such violent outbreaks. Increasing police visibility and emergency response protocols could play a vital role in ensuring the safety of patrons and staff in the future.
Overall, while the situation was alarming, it serves as a crucial reminder for venues to bolster their security measures and foster safer nightlife environments for everyone.
