A bouncer linked to a violent incident at a nightclub in Suva was apprehended by police early yesterday morning. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, confirmed that authorities are actively detaining other individuals connected to the brawl and are in the process of locating additional suspects.

Driu urged the public to refrain from taking matters into their own hands, emphasizing the importance of allowing law enforcement to handle the situation. “All those making threats on social media need to stay calm. Emotions are still high at the moment, and we are calling on parties involved to try and remain calm. Taking matters into your own hands won’t resolve anything; it will only make things worse,” he stated.

Police teams have been dispatched to Namatakula Village to gather statements from those directly involved in the incident and witnesses present at the time. Driu emphasized the necessity for collaboration from those involved, asking them to provide statements and evidence to aid in the investigation.

The police are also monitoring social media activity to prevent any retaliatory actions from escalating the situation further. Looking ahead, ACP Driu reassured the public that police presence will be heightened during the New Year celebrations to ensure the safety and security of everyone.

This incident highlights the critical role of law enforcement and community cooperation in maintaining peace and order, especially during high-stress situations. It’s essential for communities to unite and support police efforts, fostering a safe environment for all as we move forward into the new year.
