In the early hours of yesterday, a bouncer involved in a nightclub brawl in Suva was taken into custody by police. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu confirmed that authorities have begun gathering individuals associated with the incident and are actively searching for others involved.
ACPO Driu urged the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and to allow law enforcement to conduct a thorough investigation. “Those making threats on social media need to stay calm. Emotions are still high, and we are calling on all parties involved to try to remain composed. Taking matters into your own hands will not resolve anything; it will only exacerbate the situation,” he stated.
Police officers have been deployed to Namatakula Village to collect statements from individuals and witnesses connected to the brawl. Driu emphasized the importance of cooperation, urging those involved to provide statements and evidence to assist in the investigation. He reassured the public that police will continue to monitor social media activity and remain vigilant to prevent any escalation of violence.
Looking ahead, ACP Driu noted that as the New Year approaches, police will be dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of everyone in the community.
This situation highlights the importance of allowing the judicial process to take its course and encourages the community to stay calm amidst the escalating tensions. The proactive measures by the police signify a commitment to maintaining peace and safety as the New Year festivities unfold.
