Niece Rape Case Shocks Community: Man Remanded in Court

A 49-year-old man has been remanded by the Nausori Magistrates Court after being charged with the alleged rape of his 13-year-old niece. The incident reportedly took place on September 2 at the suspect’s residence. It is alleged that the victim went to his home to return an item belonging to his daughter, where he forcibly took her and committed the offenses. The victim’s mother subsequently reported the incident to the Vunidawa Police Station. The man faces two counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault, and one count of indecent assault. He is currently in custody, and the case has been scheduled for mention on September 19 at the Suva High Court.
