Newly appointed head coach of the Fiji Kulas, Nicola Demaine, has officially taken charge at the Fiji FA Academy in Suva. Demaine returns to Fiji with a wealth of experience, having previously served as a development officer, and is now set on advancing women’s football at both senior and youth levels.

Demaine’s responsibilities include overseeing the Under-16 and Under-19 programs, which are critical components of a broader initiative to fortify the national football pathway. Expressing her enthusiasm for her role, Demaine remarked, “I’m really excited to be here in Fiji and to come back with more coaching experience to make a difference in a different way.”

As the Kulas prepare for an upcoming tournament, Demaine has prioritized the senior squad. Her immediate focus is on fostering a professional environment, evaluating player fitness, and defining a distinct style of play in anticipation of their first match against New Caledonia. To facilitate this, she plans to convene the squad early next week, allowing players sufficient time to recover from their current commitments.

Demaine’s prior experience within the Pacific football landscape has enabled her to acclimatize swiftly to her new role. She is keen to collaborate closely with local coaches and staff to swiftly assemble the best possible squad. Beyond the tournament, her vision extends to comprehensively understanding Fiji’s football environment and establishing clear pathways from grassroots initiatives to the senior national team.

Demaine’s approach signals a promising future for women’s football in Fiji, as she aims not only to improve the performance of the Kulas but also to nurture aspiring players across various levels of the sport.
