Former Flying Fijians first five-eighth Nicky Little recently paid a visit to the Fijian Drua’s base in Legalega, Nadi, where he was warmly welcomed by the current squad and coaching officials. During his visit, Little expressed admiration for the advanced facilities available to the Drua, noting that such resources were not available during his playing career.

Little took the opportunity to reconnect with former teammates Kele Leawere and Ifereimi Rawaqa, both key figures from the historic 2007 Rugby World Cup team that achieved a remarkable 38-34 victory against Wales. Reflecting on the state of the game today, he said, “This is amazing. I wish we had this when I was younger,” emphasizing the importance of unity among players.

Recognized for his kicking prowess, Little shared practical tips with the Drua fly-halves. He advised them on effectively transitioning the ball from the forwards to the faster backs and highlighted the significance of strategic kicking. He succinctly reinforced the necessity of strong defensive tactics, stating, “And on defense, tackle your man. That’s it.”

During his visit, Little highlighted the crucial role that local support and professionalism amongst coaches play in the success of the Drua. He stated, “They’re all professionals here. They know what they’re doing. We just need to keep supporting them as much as we can.”

Looking ahead to the 2025 season, he conveyed a message filled with pride for the players donning the blue jersey: “All our own guys are just proud to be the men who wear the blue.” He also encouraged current players to give back to the rugby community, sharing their experiences with younger athletes.

The Fijian Drua’s commitment to community engagement was evident during their pre-season activities, which include outreach initiatives in places like Kadavu. These efforts not only strengthen team bonds but also highlight the club’s dedication to nurturing local talent.

The Drua’s focus on teamwork and community involvement presents a hopeful outlook for future successes as they prepare for the upcoming Super Rugby season. Little’s visit underscores the enduring connection between past and present players, reinforcing the spirit of rugby in Fiji. His insights and encouragement are a reminder of the importance of collaboration and giving back, crucial elements that inspire current and future generations of athletes.
