Former Flying Fijians first five-eighth Nicky Little recently visited the Fijian Drua’s base in Legalega, Nadi, where he was warmly welcomed by the current squad and officials. During his visit, Little expressed admiration for the modern facilities available to the Drua and reflected on how he wished similar resources had been provided during his own playing days.
Little had the opportunity to reunite with his former teammates Kele Leawere and Ifereimi Rawaqa, both significant figures in the historic 2007 Rugby World Cup team that achieved a remarkable victory over Wales. Emphasizing the importance of teamwork and unity, he stated, “This is amazing. I wish we had this when I was younger,” highlighting the benefits of having strong support and resources.
As an experienced player known for his kicking skills, Little shared valuable insights with the Drua fly-halves. He advised them on effectively transitioning the ball from the forwards to faster backs and the strategic use of kicking during gameplay. He stressed the need for solid defensive tactics, succinctly stating, “And on defense, tackle your man. That’s it.”
Little underscored the importance of supporting the local Super Rugby team and praised the professionalism of local coaches, noting that they are well-equipped to guide the players effectively. His heartfelt message ahead of the 2025 season spoke of pride in wearing the Drua jersey: “All our own guys are just proud to be the men who wear the blue.”
This visit signifies the Fijian Drua’s commitment to fostering community and unity within the sport as they engage in various pre-season training activities, including community initiatives in Kadavu. These efforts not only enhance team dynamics but also reflect their dedication to nurturing local talent.
As the Drua prepares for the upcoming Super Rugby season, their focus on community engagement and team cohesion presents a hopeful outlook for their future success. Little’s visit illustrates the strong connections between past and present players and reinforces the importance of teamwork, support, and giving back in the world of rugby, inspiring future generations of athletes.
