NFP’s Promise: A Coalition Built on Trust and Respect

Deputy Prime Minister and leader of the National Federation Party (NFP), Professor Biman Prasad, announced the party’s dedication to maintaining a lasting political alliance with its coalition partners, potentially extending beyond 2026.

During the NFP’s annual convention in Sigatoka, Prof Prasad expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka for his support. He acknowledged that collaborating within a coalition presents challenges, with some disagreements arising among the three parties, occasionally in public forums.

He stated, “We understand that everyone in politics has different motivations and agendas, representing diverse groups with varying priorities. Despite public disagreements, there is mutual respect among us. We are democrats and are open about our views with one another and the public.”

Prof Prasad emphasized that while NFP members might not always win discussions or achieve their objectives, they value their coalition partners and their perspectives. “Respect fosters trust,” he noted, adding that after years under a government that lacked trust, efforts are now being made to rebuild trust in Fiji.

He acknowledged that the Coalition Government is not without flaws and has faced criticism for its actions, sometimes justly and other times not. However, he affirmed the public’s right to criticize and the media’s freedom to report on government activities. He remarked that when inquiries arise regarding government missteps, Prime Minister Rabuka responds with honesty.

Prof Prasad highlighted that the Government has fulfilled its promise to restore freedom to the people of Fiji, alleviating fear and fostering a culture of listening and consultation. The recent convention attracted hundreds of NFP supporters, and an Annual General Meeting was held, resulting in the reelection of all current board members.
