NFP Leadership Insights Ahead of Game-Changing Convention

The leader of the National Federation Party (NFP) in Parliament, Professor Biman Prasad, has clarified the party’s leadership structure ahead of their Annual General Meeting (AGM) set for tomorrow in Sigatoka.

In an interview, Prof Prasad emphasized that the NFP Constitution clearly defines that the leader is not elected during the AGM. He explained, “The Parliamentary Leader operates independently from the organization’s structure. The founding members determined that Members of Parliament should be accountable to NFP members.”

He noted that the AGM, presided over by the Party President, serves as a reporting platform for the parliamentary leadership. “I will attend the Convention tomorrow as a member,” he added.

All positions for office bearers will be contested at tomorrow’s meeting, including those for President, Vice-President, General Secretary, Treasurer, and Registered Officer.

Prof Prasad reiterated, “I am not an office bearer; my role is as the Parliamentary Leader. Our Constitution is explicit; the leader’s position is not elected at the AGM.”

Additionally, the Deputy Prime Minister remarked that this convention is unique as it will be addressed by a sitting Prime Minister, with Prime Minister Rabuka set to deliver the keynote speech.

Financial and activity reports of the party will be presented at the convention. Prof Prasad urged members to participate in the meeting to engage with the five NFP members in the Coalition Government, inviting them to raise any issues or questions.

The convention will kick off at 11 am at Nadroga Sangam School in Malaqereqere, Sigatoka.
