The leader of the National Federation Party (NFP) and Finance Minister Biman Prasad has announced his intention to run in the upcoming 2026 General Election. With more than two years until the polls, Prasad emphasized the importance of engaging women and youth to help grow the party.

“I will,” Prasad confirmed, adding that as they approach the second year in government, the elections could occur anytime after three years, leaving effectively 18 months to prepare.

He highlighted that the NFP is well-organized, boasting a tested 61-year-old constitution. Prasad assured supporters that the party remains committed to its multiracial identity, rejecting race-based politics. He expressed a vision for a collaborative government focused on unity and freedom, which resonates with their diverse supporters.

During the party’s recent Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at the Nadroga Sangam School, all office bearers were re-elected unopposed. Labasa businessman Parmod Chand continues as president, supported by vice presidents Devendra Naidu, Kamala Lajendra, Ratu Esava Nabuta, Peter Saunivalu, Waisale Kanavu, and Vijay Rajnesh Prasad. Chandu Lodhia has retained his role as treasurer, a position he has held since 2016, while Kamal Iyer remains the general secretary and Biman Prasad serves as the assistant general secretary.

Prasad noted the satisfaction among party members regarding the direction of the government, recalling the vision set forth by the late Jayaram Reddy in 1999. He acknowledged that while mistakes occur in governance and allegations of corruption may arise, it is essential to move forward. “This country will be great in 20 years,” he assured his party members.
