The leader of the National Federation Party (NFP) and Minister for Finance, Biman Prasad, has announced his intention to run in the upcoming 2026 General Election. With more than two years to go until the election, Prasad emphasized the importance of engaging women and youth to strengthen the party’s base.

“I will,” he affirmed regarding his candidacy. He pointed out that the government has already been in power for nearly two years and elections could be called anytime after three years, effectively leaving about 18 months until the next polls.

Prasad noted that the NFP prides itself on being a multiracial party, devoid of any race-based distinctions, and aims to foster a government that promotes unity and inclusiveness. He highlighted the diverse crowd at their events and the party’s representation in Parliament, which includes members from the iTaukei community across the nation.

During the party’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at the Nadroga Sangam School, all office bearers were re-elected unopposed. Labasa businessman Parmod Chand continues as president, joined by vice presidents Devendra Naidu, Kamala Lajendra, Ratu Esava Nabuta, Peter Saunivalu, Waisale Kanavu, and Vijay Rajnesh Prasad. Chandu Lodhia remains the treasurer, a position he has held since 2016, while Kamal Iyer serves as general secretary and Biman Prasad as assistant general secretary.

Prasad expressed satisfaction with the party’s leadership and the government’s performance. He reflected on the vision established by the late Jayaram Reddy in 1999, stating that it remains alive and continues to grow. Acknowledging that mistakes and allegations of corruption are common in any government, Prasad encouraged members to remain focused on the future, believing that the country will thrive in the next two decades.
