Biman Prasad, the leader of the National Federation Party (NFP) and Minister for Finance, has announced his intention to run in the upcoming 2026 General Election. With just over two years until the election, Prasad emphasized the importance of engaging women and youth to strengthen the party.

“I will,” he confirmed, reflecting on the party’s organization and its 61-year-old constitutional foundation. He highlighted the NFP’s commitment to being a multiracial party, stating that supporters desire a government focused on unity and collaboration.

Prasad noted the diversity of the party’s supporters, mentioning its representation in Parliament and the active involvement of the iTaukei community from across the nation. During the NFP’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at Nadroga Sangam School, all office bearers were re-elected unopposed.

Labasa entrepreneur Parmod Chand will continue as president, supported by vice presidents Devendra Naidu, Kamala Lajendra, Ratu Esava Nabuta, Peter Saunivalu, Waisale Kanavu, and Vijay Rajnesh Prasad. Chandu Lodhia retains the role of treasurer, a position he has held since 2016, while Kamal Iyer remains the general secretary, and Bimal Prasad serves as the assistant general secretary.

Prasad expressed satisfaction among party members regarding the government’s progress and the continued relevance of the vision established by the late Jayaram Reddy. He acknowledged that governments can make mistakes and face allegations of corruption but encouraged the party and its supporters to look forward. “Let’s move on. This country will be great in 20 years,” he stated.
