The leader of the National Federation Party (NFP) and Finance Minister Biman Prasad has announced his intention to run in the upcoming 2026 General Election. With just over two years until the polls, Prasad emphasized the importance of engaging women and youth to strengthen the party’s base.

“I will,” he affirmed, noting that with nearly two years into the current government term, the election could occur at any time within the next 18 months.

Prasad highlighted that the NFP is well-structured, backed by a 61-year-old tested constitution. He reiterated the party’s commitment to a multiracial approach, distancing itself from race-based politics while focusing on unity and inclusiveness.

Prasad pointed out the diverse crowd present at a recent gathering, noting that the NFP has demonstrated its multiracial composition by having five members of Parliament, representing various communities from across the nation.

During the party’s Annual General Meeting held at the Nadroga Sangam School, members unanimously re-elected all office bearers. Labasa businessman Parmod Chand continues as president, supported by vice presidents Devendra Naidu, Kamala Lajendra, Ratu Esava Nabuta, Peter Saunivalu, Waisale Kanavu, and Vijay Rajnesh Prasad. Chandu Lodhia remains treasurer, while Kamal Iyer continues as general secretary and Bimal Prasad serves as assistant general secretary.

Prasad conveyed that the party members are pleased with the leadership and the government’s performance. He recalled the vision set forth by the late Jayaram Reddy, asserting that it remains alive and is growing.

He acknowledged that mistakes are part of governance and that allegations of corruption and mismanagement occur in all governments worldwide. Prasad’s message to his constituents was clear: “Let’s move on. This country will be great in 20 years.”
