NFP Leader Biman Prasad Sets Sights on 2026 Election

The leader of the National Federation Party (NFP) and Minister for Finance Biman Prasad has announced his intention to run in the 2026 General Election. With more than two years until the election, Prasad emphasized that engaging women and youth to strengthen the party is a primary focus.

“I will,” Prasad stated, affirming his commitment to the upcoming election. He noted that as the current government is nearing its two-year mark, there is potential for elections to occur anytime between three years and six months from now, effectively leaving the party with 18 months to prepare.

Prasad highlighted the NFP’s organization, citing its 61-year-old constitution as a guiding framework. He reiterated the party’s commitment to being multiracial and not race-based, mentioning that supporters seek a government that embodies unity and harmony.

During a recent Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at the Nadroga Sangam School, the party re-elected all its office bearers without opposition. Labasa businessman Parmod Chand continues as president, supported by vice presidents Devendra Naidu, Kamala Lajendra, Ratu Esava Nabuta, Peter Saunivalu, Waisale Kanavu, and Vijay Rajnesh Prasad. Chandu Lodhia remains as treasurer, a role he has held since 2016, while Kamal Iyer continues as general secretary and Bimal Prasad serves as assistant general secretary.

“The members are satisfied with the office bearers and the government’s progress,” Prasad remarked. He reflected on the vision set by the late Jayaram Reddy in 1999, stating it remains vibrant and continues to grow.

Prasad acknowledged that governments can make mistakes and face allegations of corruption and mismanagement, which is common across the globe. He urged everyone to move forward, expressing confidence in the country’s potential to thrive in the next 20 years.
