The National Federation Party (NFP) has raised serious allegations of a coordinated conspiracy targeting the Coalition Government in Fiji, claiming that individuals both within the country and abroad are attempting to create discord among its leadership. In a recent statement, NFP general secretary Kamal Iyer disclosed that an email sent to Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka by Australian citizen Alexandra Forwood accused NFP leader Professor Biman Prasad of planning to remove the Prime Minister from his position.
Iyer expressed gratitude to Rabuka for forwarding the email to Prasad and the party, describing the correspondence as indicative of a broader scheme aimed at causing division within the coalition. He branded the email as “malicious” and “filled with lies,” asserting it was part of a larger conspiracy that threatens the integrity of the governmental structure.
In his comments, Iyer raised concerns regarding Forwood’s apparent knowledge of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption’s (FICAC) investigations related to Prasad, emphasizing that she had posted about a court summons five days prior to its official delivery. This has led the NFP leader to question the independence of FICAC and suggest the presence of information leaks within the agency.
Iyer elaborated that the situation reveals a troubling conspiracy involving individuals who have long left Fiji, collaborating with local players to destabilize the Coalition Government. This alarming development underscores the importance of unity and resilience within Fiji’s political landscape, even amid external pressures.
The backdrop of these allegations is intensified by ongoing political scrutiny surrounding FICAC, especially in light of its recent activities. The Fiji Labour Party (FLP), another opposition force, has raised questions regarding FICAC’s independence and the legitimacy of its current leadership following developments affecting Prasad’s position. This scrutiny highlights ongoing tensions within Fijian politics, centering on governance, accountability, and the quest for transparency among government officials.
Despite the challenges posed by these allegations and inquiries, the NFP remains committed to maintaining stability within the Coalition Government. Iyer urged the Fijian public to stay vigilant against misinformation and politically motivated schemes seeking to sow division. This commitment to democracy and unity amidst adversity presents a hopeful outlook for a politically stable and prosperous Fiji as it navigates these tumultuous waters.
