The National Fire Authority (NFA) is calling on Fijians to make fire safety a priority following a devastating fire that completely destroyed a double-storey home on Matana Street, Nakasi in Nausori. Acting CEO Joel Israel reported that 13 firefighters worked through the night to combat the intense flames, finally extinguishing the fire at 11:04 PM. Unfortunately, the property, which housed six residents, was declared a total loss.

Mr. Israel emphasized the urgency of fire safety, remarking, “This incident shows how quickly fires can escalate and why fire safety is critical in every home. Simple precautions can save lives.” In light of the tragedy, he is encouraging the public to take proactive measures such as checking electrical wiring, removing flammable materials from heat sources, installing and testing smoke alarms, and maintaining clear evacuation plans.

To ensure thorough understanding and preventive measures are established, the NFA has launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the cause of the fire. This incident serves as a crucial reminder of the importance of fire safety precautions in safeguarding lives and properties across Fiji.
