The National Fire Authority (NFA) has officially launched its Paramedics Ambulance Department and welcomed new paramedics at its headquarters in Suva. According to NFA Chief Executive Officer Puamau Sowane, the department was previously managed by operational officers, which led to inefficiencies in government funding use. The establishment of this new department aims to enhance the training of professionals to effectively manage medical emergencies.

Sowane emphasized that the motivation behind forming the Paramedics department is to improve their overall performance. This new initiative includes appointing a dedicated manager for the department, along with creating a specialized center for paramedics within a section of the fire station. While specialized paramedics are still in the process of being fully developed, some firefighters have already received training from the Ministry of Health.

The newly created Emergency Ambulance and Paramedic Health Services Department is set to provide crucial support for both victims and firefighters during accidents. As first responders, paramedics will be readily available at incident sites to assist those affected by fire emergencies.

Currently, the NFA operates nine ambulances and plans to acquire an additional six paramedic ambulances to enhance their services further. These ambulances are specially designed not only for patient transport but also to cater to pre-hospital treatment needs.

In conclusion, Sowane urged the public to exercise caution during the festive season to prevent fire-related incidents, highlighting the importance of safety during this time.

This establishment of a dedicated Paramedics Ambulance Department is a significant step towards enhancing emergency response capabilities in the region, showing a commitment to providing better healthcare and safety for the community. With the addition of new ambulances and trained personnel, residents can feel more secure knowing that help is available when needed the most.
