The National Fire Authority (NFA) has made a significant advancement in emergency medical response by receiving ten Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) for deployment across its national ambulance fleet. This enhancement, valued at over $15,000, was facilitated by Heroes Need Heroes and Cellmed Australia, underscoring the importance of community partnerships in healthcare.

These AEDs will be strategically installed in ambulances nationwide to mitigate response times during cardiac emergencies, thereby improving the overall emergency care delivery. This initiative coincides with the return of ten NFA Emergency First Responders who have recently completed EMT-Level 1 training at the National Fire Agency Academy in Taiwan. Their enhanced skill set, alongside the new AEDs, is expected to bolster the capabilities of the NFA’s Paramedic Unit in providing pre-hospital emergency care.

NFA Chief Executive Officer Puamau Sowane has emphasized the organization’s commitment to improving emergency health standards and strengthening collaborations with key stakeholders. The integration of advanced equipment and trained personnel aligns with recent efforts within the NFA, including the launch of its new Paramedics Ambulance Department that aims to elevate emergency medical services.

This proactive investment signifies a hopeful future for emergency healthcare in Fiji, enhancing readiness and response capabilities, which ultimately benefits the health and safety of the community. As the NFA continues to expand its resources, public safety and prompt emergency care are well-positioned for improvement in the region.
