Two to three organizations are projected to make their debut on the securities exchange next year, spurred by the success of SUN Insurance’s recent listing. The South Pacific Stock Exchange (SPX) plans to revisit its listing rules to facilitate easier capital raising opportunities.

Following SUN’s introduction to the market, which saw its initial public offering (IPO) significantly oversubscribed, there has been a noticeable increase in investor interest in share investments, according to SPX Chief Executive Officer Sheraj Obeyesekere. While no official applications have been submitted yet, several companies are laying the groundwork for potential listings in 2025.

To support this anticipated growth, SPX will initiate a public awareness campaign aimed at promoting share investments to the public. “There is a growing demand for responsible and regulated investment avenues, and we intend to position share investments as a key option,” Obeyesekere stated.

Additionally, SPX plans to review its listing regulations in 2025 to accommodate a broader spectrum of companies looking to raise capital through the stock market. The process will involve consultations with industry stakeholders to ensure the regulations are collaborative and progressive while adhering to the fundamental principles of stock market operations.

In another positive development, SPX is focusing on enhancing its international presence. Obeyesekere mentioned that the exchange would participate in the upcoming World Federation of Exchanges Annual Meeting in Malaysia, where they aim to establish memorandums of understanding with various other exchanges. This could lead to valuable technical expertise and knowledge sharing as SPX navigates its growth journey.

Overall, the anticipated new listings and supportive regulatory changes, combined with the focus on investor education, illustrate a flourishing environment for capital markets in the region. This bodes well for both investors and businesses seeking to expand their presence in the market.
