The Constitutional Offices Commission (COC) is scheduled to convene on December 19 to finalize the appointment of the next Commissioner of Police. Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, who also chairs the COC, confirmed the meeting and shared details about the process.
A special selection panel has been established to review candidates for the position, and they have completed their shortlisting, presenting their recommendations. However, Rabuka noted that he is not privy to the names of the shortlisted candidates, as this information is maintained by the COC Secretariat.
The candidate selected will receive endorsement from His Excellency the President, following the Prime Minister’s recommendation.
This upcoming meeting represents an important step in ensuring strong leadership within the police force, which is essential for maintaining law and order in Fiji. The commitment to a thorough selection process reflects a dedication to transparency and effective governance. With the new commissioner potentially bringing innovative ideas and strategies, this could lead to enhancements in public safety and community trust in law enforcement.
