The Constitutional Offices Commission (COC) is scheduled to convene on December 19 to finalize the selection of the next Commissioner of Police. This announcement was made by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, who also serves as the Chairperson of the COC.
Rabuka indicated that a special selection panel has been formed, which has already gone through the process of shortlisting candidates and making recommendations. However, he noted that he is not privy to the details of the shortlisted individuals, as this information is maintained by the COC Secretariat.
Once a suitable candidate is chosen, the appointment will be officially endorsed by His Excellency the President, based on Rabuka’s advice.
This upcoming meeting marks a significant step in ensuring the continued stability and leadership within Fiji’s police force. The careful selection process highlights the importance of transparency and diligence in such high-stakes appointments, which can positively impact public safety and trust in law enforcement. As the COC prepares to make its decision, there is hope that the new Commissioner will bring effective leadership and innovation to address the challenges facing the police force.
