Newtown Rugby is performing well in the Ram Sami Nasinu Rugby Football Union weekly club competition, occupying second place after 11 rounds.

The team maintained a solid record with the most recent game on Saturday ending in a 10-all draw against West Coast Drifters.

Aside from this draw, Newtown has secured nine victories and has only been defeated by Police so far.

“We give glory to God for the results we have achieved. Due to wet weather conditions this week, we were only able to train for two days, but we are grateful to come away with a draw against West Coast Drifters.

“We are progressing well this season considering that some of these boys are around 19 years old, three are still in school, and some are just fresh out of high school,” said head coach Voniani Tabaka Siata.

The team is set to face table toppers, Tacirua East, in their next match.

“Next week we will face our neighbors Tacirua East. We must work on our discipline, which was one of our downfalls today (Saturday). We had two yellow cards in this game, so we need to focus on our discipline. We would like to acknowledge our supporters, especially our brothers in Australia who are backing us financially with transport and other logistics,” Siata added.

The Nasinu club games were held at the USP ground over the weekend.
