Newtown Rugby Making Waves in Nasinu Club Competition

Newtown Rugby is making significant strides in the Ram Sami Nasinu Rugby Football Union weekly club competition, currently holding the second position after 11 rounds. The team has maintained a solid record, with their most recent match on Saturday ending in a 10-all draw against West Coast Drifters.

So far, Newtown has secured nine victories and only suffered a defeat against Police. “We give the glory back to God for the results we have produced so far. Due to the wet weather conditions this week, we were only able to train for two days but we are grateful to come away with a draw against West Coast Drifters,” stated head coach Voniani Tabaka Siata.

The team’s performance is notable given that some players are as young as 19, with three still in school and others fresh out of high school. Newtown’s next match will be against the league leaders, Tacirua East.

“Next week we will face our neighbours Tacirua East. We must work on our discipline, which was one of our downfalls today. We had two yellow cards from this game, so we must focus on improving our discipline. We would like to acknowledge our supporters, especially our brothers in Australia who are supporting us financially with transport and other logistics,” Siata added.

The Nasinu club games took place at the USP ground over the weekend.
