Having already secured their place in the semi-finals with convincing wins over New Caledonia and Tahiti, New Zealand faced pressure from the Solomon Islands, who aimed for an upset.
Despite battling through the midday heat and missing two key players due to injuries, New Zealand struck first with a goal from Piper O’Neill in the 11th minute. The Solomon Islands showed resilience, with midfielders Mikaela Bangalan and Natalie Young supporting the defense and managing the pressure effectively.
As the first half drew to a close, New Zealand nearly doubled their lead, but Fiona Goroani made a critical save, thwarting a shot from Derelle Avery following a dangerous cross from Heidi Draay.
In the second half, New Zealand continued to press for additional goals, creating several opportunities, yet they were unable to find the net again. Looking ahead, New Zealand is set to face Tonga in the semi-finals scheduled for next week.
