New Zealand made history at the 2024 FANCA Nations Muslim World Cup held in Lautoka by clinching victory in all grade finals.
The under-17 team was the first to secure the youth title, and New Zealand’s triumphant run continued with wins in the Grade 35, Grade 40, Grade 50 categories, and the Premier final. In the Premier match, Mohammed Shazil Ali and Ishtiyaq Shah each scored to lead New Zealand to a victory over Canada.
On the final day of competition, the only local team competing was the Fiji Masters. Unfortunately, the Fiji Premier team did not advance past the semifinals, facing a narrow loss to Canada that ended in a penalty shootout, finishing with a 6-5 scoreline.
This remarkable performance by New Zealand in the FANCA tournament not only highlights the nation’s strong sporting prowess but also sets a precedent for future competitions, aiming for continued success and excellence in the realm of sports. It serves as an inspiration for young athletes within the Muslim community, illustrating that dedication and teamwork can lead to extraordinary achievements.
