New Zealand Dominates Tahiti in U-16 Women’s Championship Showdown

Defending champions New Zealand edged closer to a semifinal spot in the OFC U-16 Women’s Championship with a dominant 5-0 win over Tahiti in Suva.

New Zealand established their control early in the match, although Tahiti managed to disrupt their rhythm with solid defensive tactics. The breakthrough for New Zealand came in the 25th minute when Pia Vlok seized upon a defensive mistake to score the first goal.

Unfortunately, New Zealand’s midfielder Keira Tichbon sustained a non-contact injury, which required her substitution. Grace Duncan, who was previously awarded Player of the Match, stepped in and injected new energy into the team’s offense.

As the first half neared its end, Holly Robins doubled the lead for New Zealand by taking advantage of a poorly cleared corner kick. Shortly after, Duncan scored with a beautifully executed free-kick that went past Tahitian goalkeeper Kalea Torohia.

In the second half, despite numerous saves by Torohia, New Zealand continued to apply pressure. Goals from Natalie Young and Kya Solomon sealed the victory, with Solomon finishing from a challenging angle to make it 5-0.

With these two victories, New Zealand currently leads Group B and aims to continue their unbeaten streak against the Solomon Islands in their next match.
