New Zealand made history at the 2024 FANCA Nations Muslim World Cup held in Lautoka by triumphing in all grade finals. The first to secure a title was the U17 team, followed by victories in Grade 35, Grade 40, Grade 50, and the Premier finals.
In the Premier final, New Zealand defeated Canada, thanks to goals from Mohammed Shazil Ali and Ishtiyaq Shah.
While New Zealand celebrated its remarkable achievement, local team Fiji Masters was the only home side competing on the final day. The Fiji Premier team, despite its star power, faced disappointment as they were eliminated in the semifinals after a close contest, losing to Canada in a penalty shootout with a score of 6-5.
This victory for New Zealand not only highlighted their strength in youth and adult competitions but also provided motivation and inspiration for other teams looking to improve in future tournaments. The competitive spirit demonstrated by all teams involved reflects the growing enthusiasm for sports within the Muslim community, fostering camaraderie and teamwork on an international stage.
