New Year’s Tragedy: Local Man Charged with Murder

A 38-year-old man from Vidogo Settlement in Vatuwaqa is scheduled to appear in Suva’s Magistrates Court today facing a murder charge. The allegation involves a tragic incident that occurred on New Year’s Eve when the defendant and the victim, a 32-year-old manager, were part of a drinking gathering with six other individuals.

According to reports, a confrontation erupted around 10:00 AM on New Year’s Day, leading to the suspect allegedly assaulting the victim, who was found motionless on the floor. Following the incident, the suspect took the victim to CWM Hospital, where the victim was pronounced dead.

Investigations have confirmed the sequence of events through statements provided by the six eyewitnesses present during the incident. The defendant has been charged under Section 327 of the Crimes Act of 2009 for murder.

This heart-wrenching case serves as a reminder of the potential consequences of alcohol-fueled altercations.
