The Divisional Police Commander West, Senior Superintendent of Police Iakobo Vaisewa, emphasizes the need for responsible and safe celebrations as the New Year approaches. With the police festive season operations commencing on December 15, 2025, and running until January 15 next year, the authorities are gearing up to ensure public safety across the Western Division.

“Our officers will be strategically deployed throughout Rakiraki, Tavua, Ba, and Lautoka, just as we do each year,” stated SSP Vaisewa. He highlighted that the focus of their operations will involve increasing visibility, particularly concerning liquor-related offenses, while also monitoring popular picnic spots, especially during the celebration period.

SSP Vaisewa has issued an important warning to the public regarding a common festive practice of splashing water onto passing vehicles, which can lead to dangerous situations. To mitigate this risk, the police have collaborated with community policing officers who will engage with village headmen (turaga ni koro) to spread the message among local youths about the dangers of this activity.

He reiterated that interfering with traffic is not only unsafe but also illegal. “If they want to celebrate, it’s essential they do so sensibly and remember that their safety must be the top priority,” he added.

As the community prepares for New Year’s festivities, the police’s commitment to maintaining safety and order presents an opportunity for residents to enjoy the celebrations responsibly, fostering a secure and enjoyable environment for all.
