The upcoming new year is set to bring increases in fuel costs in Fiji, as gas, kerosene, and diesel prices will rise starting January 1. The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) made this announcement today, indicating that fluctuations in the Means of Platts Singapore (MOPS), international shipping rates, and foreign currency exchange rates are key factors driving these price changes.

Motor spirit and premix prices will remain unchanged, but consumers will experience a moderate hike in kerosene and diesel, which will each increase by $0.04. Additionally, the price for a 4.5kg gas cylinder will rise by $0.18, bringing the total to $15.53, while the 12kg gas cylinder will see an increase of $0.50, making the new price $41.42. Autogas prices will also rise by three cents, from $2.22 to $2.25, and bulk gas will increase from $3.16 to $3.20.

In summary, while the new year may be bringing some economic challenges with rising fuel costs, ongoing adjustments in prices reflect global market conditions. Such changes encourage consumers to consider energy efficiency and to explore alternative energy sources, fostering a proactive approach to dealing with cost increases.
