Spread the love

As the New Year dawned, approximately 1,500 passengers from the Queen Elizabeth cruise liner celebrated in Suva City. The ship, which arrived in the capital early on New Year’s Day, primarily carried tourists from Australia.

Despite unforeseen circumstances, the passengers embraced the occasion, creating lasting memories. One tourist expressed their delight, stating, “My first impression of Suva City was the welcoming crew. I haven’t been here for 65 years, and having walked around the city, it has truly changed.”

Earlier, the cruise liner had docked in Lautoka on New Year’s Eve, where tourists revelled in an evening of fireworks, traditional Fijian music, and vibrant cultural performances. The subsequent stop in Suva, though brief, was filled with activities.

The Fiji Police Force played a significant role in ensuring the tourists had a seamless experience by setting up information booths across the city. Visitors also made the most of their time in Suva, enjoying a shopping spree at Jack’s of Fiji, where staff members warmly welcomed them.

This gathering not only highlights the beauty of Fijian hospitality but also showcases how tourism can foster connections across cultures, making New Year celebrations a collective experience for visitors and locals alike. It’s a reminder of the joy that travel and exploration bring, especially during festive occasions.

In summary, the New Year celebration for the passengers aboard Queen Elizabeth in Suva marks a beautiful intersection of culture, tourism, and community spirit, promising a shared journey into 2025 filled with connections and joy.
