The start of the new year brought unique joy to several families in Fiji, as multiple women welcomed their babies on January 1. At the Suva Colonial War Memorial Hospital, Mereseini Likucokocoko celebrated the birth of her baby boy just 44 minutes after midnight, making this moment even more memorable. Her son arrived 11 days early, weighing 2.85 kilograms. Despite the challenges and pain during labor, Ms. Likucokocoko expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the support she received from the midwives and medical team.

“This was a surprise; we were not expecting him until January 11, but I thank God for this healthy gift,” she stated, marking the occasion as a moment to treasure forever.

In Nadi, Akeneta Ranadi also celebrated the new year with the birth of her daughter, who weighed 3.78 kilograms. With a due date set for January 8, Ms. Ranadi described the experience as a blessing. “This is the first blessing of the year, and I’m hopeful for more blessings in the months ahead,” she said. She shared that she lives alone with her children while her partner works abroad, making this occasion particularly heartwarming for her.

Meanwhile, on Kia Island in the northern part of Fiji, Senimili Duavokavoka welcomed her son, Suliasi Vunibola Turaganivalu, at 2 AM after being rushed to Labasa Hospital on New Year’s Eve. Weighing in at 3.7 kilograms, she referred to her child as the perfect gift that completes her family. “When I heard his first cry, I felt relief and joy,” she reflected. Her husband, Seresio Turaganivalau, expressed pride in becoming a father.

These remarkable stories celebrate the blessings and hope that come with new life, and the families look forward to a prosperous year ahead as they embrace their new arrivals.
