New Year Celebrations Bring Families to Lautoka’s Beaches

In Lautoka, locals welcomed the new year at beaches and parks, undeterred by overcast skies. Long lines of vehicles formed along Lomolomo Beach as families sought to secure their spots. Among them was Waisea Nawasoni, who expressed gratitude for the opportunity to ring in the new year with family, including relatives from overseas and his grandchildren.

Ifran Ali Sahib shared that his extended family arrived at the beach early, well-prepared with a feast of lamb chops, sausages, and beverages, emphasizing the large turnout of visitors at the site.

Additionally, members of the Nayavu Women’s Club from Wainibuka decided to kick off the new year with a chartered bus trip to the western region. Club member Mere Vunirewa noted that 48 women participated in the trip, which began at dawn. They enjoyed a lunch stop along Marine Drive before continuing their journey, which included a visit to Fulton College in Sabeto and plans to stay overnight at the scenic Yadua sand dunes.

Despite the gloomy weather, the spirit of celebration shone brightly as families gathered to celebrate together, showcasing the resilience and joy of the community.
