Residents of Lautoka enthusiastically welcomed the new year at local beaches and parks, undeterred by overcast skies. A throng of vehicles lined Lomolomo beach as families sought out available spaces to celebrate.
Among those celebrating was Waisea Nawasoni from Natokawaqa, who expressed gratitude for the chance to gather with loved ones, including relatives from Nadi and his grandchildren. “We are thankful to have reached another new year and to celebrate with family,” he shared.

The Nayavu Women’s Club from Wainibuka, Tailevu, marked the new year by chartering a bus for a scenic trip, kicking off their journey at 5 a.m. Following a lunch stop at Marine Drive in Lautoka, the group, consisting of 48 women, planned to visit Fulton College in Sabeto and spend the night at the Yadua sand dunes before returning home the next day. Member Mere Vunirewa commented on their gratitude for pleasant weather after a stretch of rain.
