The Ministry of Health and Medical Services is set to enhance medical services at Savusavu Hospital by installing a new X-ray machine following the anticipated arrival of new equipment in June. Concerns about the hospital’s non-operational X-ray machine were raised by patients last month, after it remained inactive for two months.
To address immediate needs, the ministry’s biomedical team is currently working on updating the machine’s software and will deploy a Portable Digital X-ray machine temporarily to aid in servicing patients.
In the meantime, patients requiring X-ray services are being directed to Labasa Hospital or local private providers. While the X-ray unit faces challenges, ultrasound services continue to be available at Savusavu Hospital.
Additionally, the laboratory at the hospital is experiencing issues as the Haematology Analyzer is also out of service. The Ministry is actively replacing this old machine, and during this period, samples for haematological testing are being referred to Labasa and private facilities. Despite these challenges, basic biochemistry, blood cross-matching, and serology tests are still being performed at the hospital.
The Ministry is encouraging the public to seek medical care at Savusavu Hospital, reassuring them that efforts are underway to fully restore both radiology and laboratory services. This commitment to improving healthcare capabilities signifies a proactive approach in maintaining quality medical care for the community.
Summary: The Ministry of Health and Medical Services is addressing equipment shortages at Savusavu Hospital by planning to install a new X-ray machine in June, while providing temporary solutions and continuing essential services. The public is encouraged to utilize hospital services as the ministry works to restore full functionality.
This situation highlights the ministry’s dedication to investing in healthcare infrastructure, ultimately leading to improved patient care and access to medical services in the region.
