LIFEBREAD Stay Connected has successfully broadened the reach of its flagship Confident Woman program, extending its empowerment training to communities previously outside its typical scope, including the remote Yasawa Islands.
Last year, the organization conducted a pilot of a condensed, community-oriented version of the program in Naviti and Yasawa, marking a significant step in its commitment to serve distant island populations. This initiative is supported by the Women’s Fund Fiji and aims to enhance life skills and personal development for women in these areas.
The rollout in Yasawa came directly in response to requests from the community, highlighting a burgeoning interest in programs dedicated to women’s growth and overall wellbeing. Dorinda Work, the Director of LifeBread Stay Connected, noted this outreach as a pivotal milestone for the organization. She remarked, “The response was overwhelming. Many women shared that they had never experienced training that solely focused on their personal value, emotional wellbeing, and leadership potential.”
Distinct from traditional business-centric workshops, this specialized training placed a strong emphasis on soft skill development. Participants engaged with key modules that included self-care, personal development, anger and behavior management, leadership for women, change management, and financial wellness.
Feedback from participants indicated that these sessions empowered them to envision themselves beyond the conventional roles of wife and mother, while also acknowledging their vital contributions to their families and communities.
Encouraged by the positive reception, LifeBread is planning to further extend the program throughout Ba Province, collaborating closely with Soqosoqo Vakamarama Ba to facilitate implementation across its 21 districts. This maritime outreach represents a new chapter in LifeBread’s efforts, indicating a promising trajectory toward fostering empowerment and personal growth among women in Fiji.
